Who's afraid of fatarus

Nabarun Bhattacharjee’s Fatarur Bombachak…has me riveted. I am reading a novel after a long time. And this wasn’t an obvious choice. But the fatarus descended on me, uninvited, as they do on those they despise. Those who need a course correction, those who have co-opted, those who are too caught up to bother are the targets of fatarus. And what do the fatarus do? They piss, they crap, they break, they burn. And they write and recite bad poems. They are harbingers of change, long overdue. They are subalterns who can fly, they are revolutionaries who have kicked the armchair to soar in the air and take a bird’s eyeview of all that is wrong. Then they descend to destroy. Brilliant.
